 About FUKUOKA and LOGO

itc2023 logo
ume

In Japan, since ancient times there has been a tradition of using a decorative string called Mizuhiki for wrapping gifts. There are various motifs, materials, and ways of tying Mizuhiki, and each has its own particular meaning. The logo for the ITC Fukuoka 2023 is a graphic representation of a "plum knot" Mizuhiki, based on the motif of the plum, the prefectural flower of Fukuoka, where the conference will be held. The plum is a flower that endures the harsh winter and welcomes spring, expressing the joy of finally being able to reunite with friends. Once tied, the plum knot cannot be easily untied, and is therefore considered to be very auspicious, symbolizing "strong bonds," "protection from evil," and "better fortune."
